TEACHING VOCABULARY

TEACHING VOCABULARY

Every English teacher wishes that their students are able to memorize all the vocabulary they have given moreover the students can practice the vocabulary in their daily life. But we realize that it’s not an easy thing to do. In my class activity, besides the main material I also add 2 kinds of material to increase the students’ vocabularies. I named them with expression of the day and expression to memorize.
First, expression of the day, in this activity I give my student two short expressions without writing them, usually in form of question and answer. For example: “where are you going: I am going to.......”. “Can I borrow your...? : yes, please” I read them and my students repeat them several times. After that I ask them to practice with their peers for about 2 minutes. And the last I point several of them to practice randomly. At the end I write the expression in the board.
Second, expression to memorize, in this activity I give my students 5 expressions to memorize and report it in the next meeting. Usually the expression is about daily activity, friendship, love and so on.
I choose teaching vocabulary through expressions because it’s pretty simple. The students do not need to think about how to arrange the vocabulary to compose the sentence to communicate. So it makes them easy to practice it.
This is my way to teach vocabulary. Let’s share..........
