3.      Ciri-Ciri News Item

a)      Penulisan Judul (Headline) berdasarkan isi keseluruhan berita yang diringkas ke dalam satu kalimat.

b)      Bahasa yang digunakan tidak berbelit-belit dan informative.

c)      Fokus pada suatu kejadian

d)     Sering menggunakan action verbs yaitu kata kerja yang menunjukan aktifitas. Contoh: berbicara, berlari, menangis dll.

e)      Dominan menggunakan saying verbs seperti "diberitakan , dikatakan, dikutip, mengatakan, memberitakan, mengutip".

f)       Banyak menggunakan adverb of time (yesterday, now, tomorrow, etc), adverb of place (Name of city, country, street, etc), adverb of manner (quickly, fast, slowly, beautifully, well, etc).

4.      Generic Structure of News Item Text

a)      Newsworthy event/Main event: adalah peristiwa fakta atau berita utama yang akan diinformasikan kepada para pembaca. Berita yang ditulis harus suatu berita yang penting dan layak untuk diberitakan kepada masyarakat luas.

b)      Background/Elaboration event (s): penjelasan lebih lanjut berupa serangkaian peritiwa yang melatar belakangi terjadinya masalah dalam peristiwa tersebut, serta peristiwa lain yang memperjelas kronologi peristiwa.

c)      Sources: adalah sumber berita terebut. Karena news item adalah text yang bersifat memberikan informasi maka perlu adanya sumber yang terpercaya agar para pembaca yakin dengan berita yang mereka baca. sumber informasi dapat berupa komentar dari saksi peristiwa tersebut atau pendapat para ahli.

Two fire investigators said the blazed apparently started in a file of cardboard cartons at the rear of a shoe store and spread above the 13 other stores. The fire started at 4.40 p.m. and was declared under control at 6.14 p.m. The center is on the Cross County Parkway at the Gov. Thomas E. Dewey Thruway.

Five fire-fighters were busy at the scene.

John Carey of the Yonkers Arson Squad said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Veteran actor Didi Widiatmoko, popularly known as Didi Petet, died at the age of 58 at his residence in Sasak Tinggi, Ciputat, South Tangerang, on Friday morning.
Didi’s niece Muthia Kautsar said that Didi collapsed and lost consciousness when attending an expo in Milan, Italy, recently.
“He just arrived home on May 10 after attending the exhibition. In that city, he collapsed and lost consciousness and returned home in a wheelchair,” she said.
On Tuesday, Didi was taken to Bandung for treatment. Muthia said no diseases were detected but he died on Friday.
Didi’s body is laid out in his residence on Jl. Bambu Apus in Sasak Tinggi, Ciputat, South Tangerang. It has yet to be decided when and where he will be buried.
